Individual Counseling
Individuals seeking short or long term therapy are accepted into counseling based upon their ability to benefit from this work. Success depends upon engagement, willingness to take responsibility for one's own life, and motivation to change. The therapeutic goals and approaches will be determined by mutual agreement.
Couples Counseling
Couples counseling can genuinely improve the quality of life in our significant relationships. Too many of us grew up expecting that if we "just find the right person" the rest will take care of itself only to discover that it doesn't always work out that way. Often, we have to acquire the necessary skills, learning how to communicate with our partners in order to grow the warmth, trust, and closeness we truly seek. Sometimes, we find that we have fallen into a destructive cycle of behavior and need help to get out of it and back on track. Typically, partners will be seen both together and separately to work on issues and learn new skills. Retreat experiences can be custom designed to meet the needs of a couple. Inquiries are invited.
Supervision
Supervision is available to support direct care professionals working in the mental health and addiction fields. Counselor wellness and self-care are emphasized. Additional topics are addressed as needed.
Consultation for EMDR Certification
I have been using EMDR since 1997, and am pleased to meet face-to-face or on the telephone with clinicians who have successfully completed the Level I and II EMDR Institute training in order to fulfill the consultation hours required to become a Certified Therapist in EMDR through EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). The consultation process really supports the newly trained clinician who is working to integrate this healing approach with an existing set of therapeutic skills.
Workshops and Retreats
Workshops and retreats are intensive experiences with a specific content focus, presenting attendees with the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and practice new skills in a supportive setting. Look for our Offerings Page which is coming soon to review scheduled events, or contact us and let us know what you are looking for. Workshops and retreats can be customized to fit your specific needs. Inquiries are invited.
Professional Trainings
Professional trainings are offered on a variety of topics and are suitable for continuing education credits. Many of these trainings have been approved for New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (NYS CASAC) education. Presentations can be customized to fit a specific audience. Inquiries are invited.
ADD/ADHD
Attention-Deficit Disorder with or without Hyperactivity is much written about in the press and elsewhere. Controversy, misinformation and ignorance too often characterize the attitudes toward this condition, yet it is estimated that 5 to 15 percent of the population has ADD/ADHD. For the founders of North Country Counseling, ADD/ADHD is not just statistics and controversy, it is a part of our family. Through accurate information, proactive coping, a network of support, and compassion, we have learned about successfully managing the challenges. ADD/ADHD evaluation, counseling and coaching is available for adolescents and adults with Attention-Deficit Disorder with or without Hyperactivity (ADD/ADHD).
New York State OASAS Assessment of the Impaired Driving Offender
Arrest and conviction for driving while intoxicated, or driving while ability impaired by alcohol/drugs, results in a long list of consequences, one of these may be a required comprehensive assessment to determine if you have a substance abuse or dependence problem that requires treatment.
As a NYS OASAS Approved Provider having completed the most recent training on Standards For Clinical Services Provided To Individuals Arrested For An Impaired Driving Offense, I believe in a comprehensive and fair process that offers the driving offender information so that he or she may avoid another such incident.
Evaluation and Referral
Evaluation and referral may be the optimal treatment course for some individuals. On occasion, a higher level of care may be required. After the evaluation, treatment recommendations can be reviewed and appropriate referrals can be made.
